Creative Technologist
Local Projects is currently seeking a Creative Technologist to help shape the future of museum and public space media through technology. Development and implementation experience for a variety of media (web, handheld, phone, kiosk and spatial installations) preferred.
We are currently developing media for the National September 11 Memorial
Museum, The official New York City Visitors Center in Times Square,
and the Museum of Chinese in the Americas in a new Maya Lin interior,
opening early 2009, as well as projects for the National Building
Museum in Washington D.C. and the Museum of Science and Industry in
Chicago.
We're looking for someone to help realize a number of these projects from the original concept and design, through implementation and quality assurance, to development and maintenance; producing superb deliverables at every stage.
These projects will demand both a strong creative design sensibility, and expert-level coding skills. The position is well-suited to someone who is primarily oriented towards coding, but would like to have a broader role in the design process. Between coding projects, the CT may assist with wireframing and other interaction design documentation. It is essential for this person to be flexible, imaginative, and excited about creating innovative interactive experiences that live in physical space. The CT will also involved in project estimation and scheduling.
Our software must run for extended periods of time with little-to-no maintenance. Therefore, the CT will need to be able to produce highly stable and optimized code. We’re looking for a true digital craftsperson.
The Technologist will work with the Local Projects Interactive Designer and Principal.
Technical Requirements:
We’re looking for someone who is essentially language agnostic in the sense that he or she will be able to quickly learn any new technology necessary to complete projects. That said, we need someone with fluency in both high and lower-level graphics programming. For example:
Advanced ability with at least one high-level graphics platform. Flash/Flex and/or Processing preferred. Max and VVVV are also possibilities.
Expert ability in a C variant (C++, Objective C, OpenFrameworks).
Intermediate ability with at least one scripting language (PHP, Ruby, Python, etc.).
Knowledge of dynamic front-end web technologies helpful but not necessary.
Physical computing experience using the Arduino or similar would be nice.
Ability to understand and produce detailed, quality software documentation.
Many projects rely on computer vision -- some experience in that area is necessary.
Natural language processing experience is also desirable.
Intuitive understanding of UI usability interaction design.
Good aesthetic sensibility.
Please submit your resume, work samples and salary requirements to jobs@localprojects.net.
