Rising five stories above Independence Mall, the National Museum of American Jewish History will join Independence Hall, the National Constitution Center, and the Liberty Bell at the site of America’s birth. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2010, with a total building size of 100,000 square feet, the new building will present educational programs and experiences that preserve, explore and celebrate the history of Jews in America. Using historical objects, cutting edge technology, hands-on interactives, and narrative storytelling, the exhibition will highlight how and when Jews immigrated to America, the choices they faced, the challenges they confronted, and the ways in which they shaped and were shaped by their American home.
