9/11 Memorial Guide Featured on the New Yorker, May 2011

Jake Barton, the principal at the media-design firm Local Projects, took on the assignment of designing an algorithm that could sort the names in keeping with all the overlapping requests for memorial adjacencies. Media Producer/ Project Manager

Local Projects is currently seeking an experienced

Media Producer / Project Manager to help shape the

future of museum and public spaces through strong

detail management and positive client relationships.

Candidate should be an omniscient individual who will

be able to conceptualize, develop and produce highly

innovative pieces and can track and facilitate next

steps on complex projects from conception through

installation.

Our projects will demand a very special individual,

who can both drive and shadow the creative

process while producing easy to comprehend status

reports, presentations and updates for clients and

collaborators.

Candidate must have a strong technical

understanding of both the front and back end

development process for multiple mediums including

shoot coordination and logistics, film production, post-

production, web, mobile web and kiosk development

and any new media formats that are thrown at

you. We’re looking for someone with 5-7 years of

relevant experience to help coordinate projects from

concept through design, prototyping and installation.

Candidate should have a strong foundation in

traditional design documentation as well as a high

comfort level developing and maintaining budgets,

production schedules and other associated project

administration standards.

Candidate must be able to lead as well as collaborate

with a strong design team and complex/intelligent

clientele.

Interaction Designer

Local Projects is currently seeking an Interaction Designer to help shape the future of museum and public space media. Design experience spanning a range of platforms preferred (web, handheld, phone, kiosk and spatial installations). We are currently developing media for the National September 11 Memorial Museum, The Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum 2013 rennovation, The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial and a variety of other cultural and arts institutions. We’re looking for someone with 3-5 years of interaction design experience to help create a number of these projects from the original concept through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and iteration. The ideal candidate will have experience developing innovative interactive experiences in public space. We require a strong foundation in traditional design documentation including wireframes, sitemaps, and flow diagrams. Experience creating prototypes of both high and low fidelity is a must. The candidate should also have experience with user research including the creation of screeners and scripts. We will be interested in the candidate’s ability to interpret user feedback and translate it into design ideas. The Interaction Designer will work under Local Projects’ Creative Directors and Principal on a variety of projects and tasks.
Skill Requirements:
-3-5 years traditional agency-side interaction design experience.
-Exceptionally great oral, written, and visual communication skills.
-Wildly conceptual imagination.
-Highly developed visual design sensibility.
-Meticulous document production skills.
-OmniGraffle and Photoshop.
-Intermediate programming skills with one or more languages used to create UIs (Actionscript, Processing, HTML, Javascript)

Graphic Design Interns (Fall 2013)

Local Projects is currently seeking Graphic Design interns with strong 2D design and production skills as well as an interest in Interaction Design. Candidates should have a foundation in design for web/mobile, motion graphics as well as physical installations. Candidates will assist in the creation of production ready files while also engaging in early concept and ideation phases required for the realization of finished works.

Development Interns (Fall 2013)

Local Project is currently seeking Fall 2013 interns to work with our team of engineers on code development and application design for a variety of cultural web, mobile, kiosk and physical development projects. We are looking for candidates with the following credentials:

- Programming experience with any of: Python, Ruby, C, Clojure, Go, Lua.
- Experience with popular CMS systems such as Drupal, WordPress, ExpressionEngine.
- HTML, CSS and Jquery experience.
- Experience using databases connected to websites – eg. Mysql, sqlite.
- Understanding of and interest in design patterns such as MVC and MVVC.
- A passionate interest in being challenged with the latest technology.
